The self-guided nature trail at the southwestern corner of the campground area is open year around. You may pick up a brochure and follow the guide posts along the way. The lake supports fair to excellent populations of Channel Catfish, Black Bullhead, Black Crappies, Red-Ear Sunfish, Blue gill and Large Mouth Bass. Birders Welcome - Maxwell Wildlife Refuge and the Lake area are popular with visiting birders. More than 100 species have been identified. Eastern Bluebirds are often seen along the Blue Fird Trail of 25 Boxes. Bird brochures are available at the tour center. Check information signs for rules and regulations at
